Being the Embodiment of Nature: International Yoga Day 2022

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice, prominently found in ancient Indian Scriptures but now it is popular worldwide. Yoga can help a human to align the energies in a certain way that it can stabilize the human system both body and mind. The word Yoga is derived from the word " Yuj" which symbolises the union of body and consciousness. Yoga is often performed through "Asanas" but it is way beyond that. It means unlocking the infinite possibilities and power within the human system. There are numerous benefits of Yoga, which is the key reason behind the popularity throughout the Globe.
The idea of " International Yoga Day" was conceived by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who proposed the concept on September 27, 2014,during his speech at the UN General Assembly. The draft resolution passed by India was supported by 177 nations. Recognizing the universal appeal and growing fame, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014. Consequently, the first International Yoga Day was observed on June 21, 2015.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that yoga has become a festival as there is widespread acceptance of the ancient Indian practice as he participated in the eighth International Day of Yoga(IDY) celebrations in Karnataka's Mysuru.
Speaking before the yoga demonstration in which he participated for 45 minutes, PM Modi said,"The acceptance of that amrit spirit of India which gave energy to India's freedom struggle. That is why mass yoga demonstrations are being organised at 75 iconic locations across the country.
Greeting people on the occasion of International Yoga Day, President Ram Nath Kovind said," Yoga is India's gift to humanity and it is a holistic approach to health and well-being, balancing mind, body and soul." The President took part in Yoga Day demonstration at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He also asked everyone to make Yoga a part of their daily life and experience it's benefits.
"Yoga can unite body and mind," said Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai. He was speaking at 8th International Day of Yoga celebrations, organised at Mysuru Palace premises, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed yoga with thousands other yoga enthusiasts. "Mr. Modi has played a big role in taking yoga to the global level and in the celebrations of Intenational Day of Yoga," Mr. Bommai said while thanking the PM for choosing Mysuru to lead the Yoga Day celebrations. The gesture has put Mysuru prominently on the international map, he added.

The day is marked for spreading significance of Yoga in a human's life and the value that it adds. Yoga can help a person to, improve his/her lifestyle, better sleep, consistent energy throughout the day, mindfulness, etc. the list of benefits yoga can provide is endless.
